Woolwich police have been given enhanced powers following the tragic stabbing of a 14-year-old boy on a bus, raising fears of youth violence.

To tackle the rising fears of youth violence, officers can now stop and search people more freely. They can even ask folks to remove face coverings. This is all happening because there’s a worry that more violence could break out. The new rules apply to Woolwich and nearby areas like Plumstead.
The Met Police shared on social media that they’ve put these measures in place to prevent further crime and keep the community safe. They’re also increasing their presence in the area for the next day or so. Kelyan’s mother spoke out, saying her son had been groomed by gangs after he ran away from care. It’s really sad to hear how vulnerable kids can be taken advantage of.
Kelyan’s tragic death has sparked a lot of discussions online, especially since another teenager, Daejaun Campbell, was also stabbed in Woolwich just a few months earlier. The police are still investigating and haven’t found any links between the two cases yet.
There was also another stabbing in Woolwich recently, but thankfully, that wasn’t fatal. The police are urging anyone who knows something about Kelyan’s case to step forward. It’s crucial for the community to come together and help out. Last year, London saw ten teenagers lose their lives, mostly due to stabbings, which is just heartbreaking.
