A house in Uxbridge will be torn down to build a new block of nine flats, following planning approval.

Uxbridge: A house on Harefield Road is about to be demolished. The Hillingdon Planning Committee just approved plans to replace it with a block of nine flats. This decision came on January 15, and it’s a big change for the area.
Originally, there were plans for two semi-detached houses, but those got scrapped. Now, the new building will have a mix of flats: one three-bedroom, five two-bedroom, and three one-bedroom units. It’ll stretch over four floors, and there will be 12 parking spaces, including one for disabled access.
Councillor Henry Higgins, who chairs the committee, shared his thoughts on the London Plan, calling it disastrous. He pointed out that they’re actually providing more parking than the plan requires, which is a plus.
There were some concerns from locals, though. Over 30 people signed a petition against the development, mainly worried about the lack of family-sized homes. They only plan to have one three-bedroom flat, which isn’t enough for some folks.
The council, however, believes they’re replacing one family home with another, plus eight additional flats. Traffic was another hot topic during discussions. Residents fear that more cars will lead to increased noise and air pollution.
But the council thinks the local traffic can handle the extra vehicles. They estimate only a few more cars will be coming in and out during peak times, so they don’t see a reason to reject the plans based on traffic concerns.
