Nathan Jones reflects on a disappointing 4-2 defeat, highlighting defensive errors and a lack of aggression from his team

Rotherham: Nathan Jones was pretty shocked by how his team played in that 4-2 loss. He didn’t expect such a chaotic defensive showing.
This defeat was their first in seven League One matches, and it felt worlds apart from their recent FA Cup game against Preston.
The Addicks fell behind quickly, with Andre Green scoring first. Then, a mistake from Lloyd Jones let Green set up Alex MacDonald for the second goal.
Miles Leaburn managed to score just before halftime, but Rotherham struck again with Zak Jules adding a third in stoppage time.
After the break, Malik Wilks made it four, lifting the ball over the keeper. Matty Godden scored late, but it was too little, too late.
This was the first time Charlton conceded four goals in a league match since a heavy loss to Ipswich back in April 2023.
Jones didn’t hold back, saying they were really poor and didn’t do the basics right. He noted how Rotherham was more aggressive and simply outplayed them.
He pointed out the catastrophic goals they conceded, mentioning big errors and a lack of defensive effort. They just didn’t defend their box well at all.
Even when they got back in the game, they quickly fell back into bad habits, giving the ball away and not putting Rotherham under pressure.
Jones expressed his frustration, saying they’ve been solid defensively lately, but this game was a huge step back. He emphasized the need to return to their usual form.
