A couple has been sentenced for the horrific murder of Sarah Mayhew. They dismembered her body and left the remains in public areas, shocking the community.

Croydon: A man and woman have been sentenced for the brutal murder of Sarah Mayhew. They dismembered her body and left it in public places, which is just horrifying.
Steve Samson, 45, and Gemma Watts, 49, were given life sentences. Samson will spend his life in prison, while Watts will serve at least 30 years.
They also received five years for trying to cover up their crime. Both admitted to murder and preventing a lawful burial.
Detective Chief Inspector Martin Thorpe expressed condolences to Sarah’s family. He acknowledged how hard it must be for them to hear about Sarah’s last moments.
Police found human remains in Rowdown Fields on April 2, 2024. Forensics confirmed it was Sarah, who was just 38 and living in Croydon.
In May, more remains were discovered in Mitcham, also belonging to her. The investigation revealed chilling messages between Samson and Watts about their intentions.
Sarah was last seen on CCTV entering Samson’s home on March 8, 2024. Two days later, Samson bought a hacksaw and cleaning supplies, which raised red flags.
They were seen carrying large shopping bags, struggling with their contents. Later, parts of Sarah’s body were found in the same area.
Samson was arrested on April 6, 2024, with Watts following soon after. They were charged and convicted just days later.
DCI Thorpe emphasized that Sarah had her whole life ahead of her. He described the couple’s actions as sadistic and selfish, leaving her family to deal with the trauma.
He urged respect for the family’s privacy during this difficult time. No sentence can bring Sarah back, but justice has been served.
