Bromley Council has decided not to charge Blue Badge holders for parking. This decision has been met with relief from local residents who campaigned against the unfair plans.

Residents were really worried about the proposed charges. Many felt it was unfair to make disabled people pay more than others.
Sian Pugh, who started a petition, was thrilled. She gathered over 4,000 signatures to oppose the charges. Even though she doesn’t have a Blue Badge, her daughter does, and she knew it would hit them hard.
Liam Conlon, the local MP, also supported the campaign. He said it was wrong to charge Blue Badge holders more. They don’t have the same options as able-bodied people.
While everyone is happy about the decision, Sian mentioned it’s been a tough road. She hates that disabled folks have to fight so hard for their rights.
The council initially proposed the charges due to a big budget deficit. But now, that deficit has shrunk, allowing them to drop the plan. Councillor Nicholas Bennett explained that they found a way to balance the budget without these charges.
This whole situation has shown how strong the community can be when they come together. It’s a relief for many who rely on their Blue Badges to get around.
