Catherine Hudson, a nurse who sedated patients, has been removed from the nursing register after her conviction for serious misconduct

Blackpool: So, there’s this nurse, Catherine Hudson, who got herself into a whole heap of trouble. She was caught drugging patients in a stroke unit just to make her job easier. Can you believe that?
She was sentenced to over seven years in prison back in December 2023 for sedating two patients and even teaming up with a junior nurse to sedate a third. It’s just wild!
Recently, the Nursing and Midwifery Council decided to strike her off the nursing register. They held a hearing this week, and it was pretty clear they weren’t having any of her nonsense.
The whole thing started back in November 2018 when a student nurse reported Hudson for suggesting they give an elderly patient some unprescribed sleeping pills. That’s just not right!
During the trial, it came out that Hudson even joked about one of her patients in a WhatsApp message, saying she sedated her “to within an inch of her life.” How messed up is that?
She was found guilty of mistreating patients and conspiring to sedate another. Plus, she admitted to stealing drugs and messing with the justice system. Just wow!
The judge didn’t hold back during sentencing, saying Hudson exploited her patients’ vulnerabilities for her own convenience. That’s just heartbreaking.
The misconduct panel was really harsh on her, saying her actions were a huge departure from what’s expected of a nurse. They were worried she might do it again if given the chance.
They even put an interim suspension in place for 18 months while she figures out if she wants to appeal. Honestly, I can’t see how anyone would want her back in nursing after all this.
