Residents believe the Nottingham pub should stay open for everyone. Estate agents suggest it could be converted into flats or other commercial spaces.

Nottingham: A local pub by the canal is causing quite a stir. The Waterfront, which closed in spring 2023, is up for sale at £600,000. Some folks think it should stay a pub for everyone.
Estate agents say it could be turned into flats or offices. “Under offer” signs are already popping up. But Andrew Ludlow from CAMRA believes closing the pub was a big mistake.
He points out that other pubs nearby have also shut down. The Company Inn closed in November 2021, and Via Fossa boarded up last October. It’s a worrying trend for locals.
On the bright side, The Fellows, Morton and Clayton just reopened. It’s been a tough ride for them, but they’re back. Ludlow argues that the Waterfront is in a lovely spot for leisure activities.
He insists it should be kept for the public, not just for those who can afford to buy property. “We need more pubs together,” he says. It makes the area more inviting for everyone.
The Canal and River Trust, which owns the Waterfront, put it on the market in November 2024. They plan to use the sale money to maintain their waterways, which are crucial for the community.
A spokesperson mentioned they’re also turning a nearby building into flats. They want to ensure the waterways remain enjoyable for everyone in Nottingham.
