A fire in Upper Norwood resulted in six individuals being hospitalized after significant damage occurred to a block of flats
Upper Norwood: Early this morning, a fire broke out in a block of flats, and it was quite a scene. Six people had to be taken to the hospital after the first floor took a real beating.
About 60 firefighters and eight fire engines rushed to Church Road to handle the situation. It was all hands on deck as they worked hard to get everyone to safety.
Met police officers helped escort six people from the lower ground floor, while firefighters used ladders to rescue ten others from the first and second floors. Talk about teamwork!
Station officer Dean Juckes, who was in charge at the scene, mentioned how they found multiple people needing help. The firefighters really pushed through some tough conditions to get everyone out safely.
They even had a 32-metre turntable ladder set up to keep an eye on things from above. It’s amazing how they managed to control the fire by around 5:15 am.
Before the firefighters arrived, control officers were already on the phone, giving lifesaving advice to those stuck inside. Thanks to their quick thinking, there were no serious injuries or fatalities.
Now, the cause of the fire is still under investigation by both the fire brigade and the Met. Let’s hope they get to the bottom of it soon.
