Harrow: The council has been shelling out big bucks for pothole claims. Since 2020, they’ve paid over £200,000 due to accidents caused by potholes and pavement issues.

The highest payout was in 2022, hitting more than £75,000. It’s clear that the state of the roads is a real problem. To tackle this, Harrow Council is planning to double its investment in road repairs next year.

They’ve had 30 claims in five years, with most related to pavement defects. It’s a serious issue, especially for those with mobility challenges. Uneven pavements can be a nightmare for wheelchair users and others who need a smooth path.

A local resident, Adam Gabsi, highlighted how these issues create barriers for disabled folks. He’s calling for urgent action to make the streets safer and more accessible for everyone.

In 2020, there were only 45 claims, but that number jumped to 59 in 2023. While the council is working hard to fix things, they still have a long way to go.

They’ve invested in new tech to speed up repairs, and since January 2024, they’ve already fixed over 2,000 potholes. The council is committed to making roads safer for everyone, and it’s about time they did.
