At 94, Mary Marson from Surrey Quays is a Zumba star, showing everyone how to stay active and engaged in life.

Deptford: You won’t believe this amazing story about a 94-year-old great-grandmother! Mary Marson is totally rocking her Zumba classes three times a week. She’s been doing it for years at the Wavelengths leisure centre.
Mary says she can keep up with all the moves and even bend down to touch her toes. She loves the music, which really gets her pumped up. How cool is that?
Originally from Jamaica, Mary moved to the UK when she was 27. She spent a lot of time in Lewisham and worked as a tailor for a bit. But once she became a mum, she focused on raising her kids. She believes her good health comes from her roots, a healthy diet, and a positive attitude.
As a kid, she was super sporty and always made the teams for baseball and rounders. When she first saw snow in England, she was over the moon! Mary’s always been a glass-half-full kind of person, which she thinks helps her feel young.
Mary loves the social aspect of her Zumba classes. She feels connected to the community and knows that just sitting at home wouldn’t do her any good. Staying active is key for her.
Thanks to her lifestyle, she lives independently and only gets the occasional cold. Her family—four kids, four grandkids, and five great-grandkids—are all proud of her and try to stay fit too.
The staff at Wavelengths see Mary as family. They celebrate her birthday every year with balloons and cake, making her feel special.
Topaz White, the fitness instructor, says Mary is an inspiration. Her dedication to Zumba shows everyone that staying active is essential for a long life.
