Charlton’s skipper reflects on a tough 4-2 defeat at Rotherham, calling it a wake-up call for the team

Rotherham: Charlton’s captain Greg Docherty had some strong words after their 4-2 loss at Rotherham United. He called it a “reality check” for the team.
The Addicks had been on a decent run, but this match was a tough pill to swallow. They fell behind early, conceding two goals in just 14 minutes at the New York Stadium.
Even though Miles Leaburn managed to score one back, Rotherham quickly restored their lead with another goal just before halftime. It was a rough first half for Charlton.
Things didn’t get better in the second half either. Malik Wilks scored Rotherham’s fourth goal, and even though Matty Godden got a late consolation, it didn’t change the outcome.
This was only the second time this season that Charlton lost by more than one goal, and it was the first time they let in four since last April. Docherty, who assisted Leaburn’s goal, expressed his frustration about the early mistakes.
He mentioned how they had discussed Rotherham’s style of play before the match, but they still shot themselves in the foot. The early goals made it tough for them to recover.
Docherty admitted it was a frustrating day and that they need to learn from this experience. He apologized to the fans who traveled to support the team, acknowledging their effort and commitment.
Looking ahead, he emphasized the importance of bouncing back in their next game against Bolton. He knows the team has to put this loss behind them and focus on what’s next.
It’s a tough lesson, but they have a chance to make things right soon. The players are eager to prove themselves and show that they can do better.
