Jian Wen, a former takeaway worker, faces a £3.1m repayment after her money laundering conviction in North London

North London: So, there’s this ex-takeaway worker named Jian Wen who just got hit with a massive £3.1 million bill after being found guilty of money laundering. She was sentenced to over six years in prison, which is pretty serious stuff.
Wen’s shady dealings raked in about £3.5 million, allowing her to upgrade from living above a restaurant to a fancy rented house. Quite the glow-up, right?
She got in trouble for messing around with a cryptocurrency wallet that had 150 Bitcoin in it. The police found a bunch of Bitcoin wallets worth around £300 million, and they figured out it was all from illegal activities.
Wen moved into her posh North London pad back in 2017. Then in 2019, she even jetted off to Dubai to buy two properties worth over £500,000. She claimed she was just helping a Chinese guy with the purchases, but it sounds a bit fishy.
Now, she’s been ordered to cough up £3,126,572 within three months. If she doesn’t, she could end up with an extra seven years in prison. Yikes!
The judge said she benefited from her crimes to the tune of £3.5 million, and the police are on the lookout for any new assets she might have.
Adrian Foster, the Chief Crown Prosecutor, said they’ve really nailed Wen for her sophisticated money laundering. He mentioned that over the last five years, they’ve recovered more than £450 million from criminals, which is a big win for justice.
