Residents express concerns over new high-rise plans, fearing shadows and noise
The proposal includes four blocks, with the tallest reaching 31 floors. They aim to house over 1,400 students and add some affordable flats too. But many locals are worried about losing sunlight and property value.
One resident, who moved in a few years back, said the new buildings would block their light and ruin their view. They even called out the developers for their greed.
Another neighbor described the design as a “drab mass” that would overshadow the area, which has been improving lately. They fear it will lead to more noise and trouble in the neighborhood.
The current office block, Skipton House, would be torn down to make way for this new development. It’s been empty for a while now, so the developers see it as a chance to revamp the area.
The plans include 243 affordable flats, with a good chunk available at social rents. But there’s a history here; previous proposals for this site have been scrapped due to disagreements.
The developers promise that this new project will create a vibrant community space, but many locals are skeptical. They’re waiting for Southwark council to make a decision on the plans, which hasn’t been scheduled yet.
