London: Dulwich Hamlet has decided to let go of Hakan Hayrettin after a tough loss at home to Bognor Regis Town. That 4-3 defeat was just too much.

The team, known for having the largest crowds in the Isthmian League Premier Division, is currently six points clear of the relegation zone. But they’ve played two more games than some teams below them, which isn’t a great position to be in.

Fans had been calling for Hayrettin’s head on social media after a rough patch where the team only managed to grab four points from 40 available. Ouch!

He took over in March 2023 but couldn’t save the team from dropping down from the National League South. His predecessor, Paul Barnes, didn’t last long either, stepping in after Gavin Rose was let go in September 2022.

Rose had a solid run, earning two promotions during his 13 years with the club. That’s a tough act to follow!

In a statement, Dulwich announced the decision to part ways with Hayrettin and his team, thanking them for their service and wishing them well.

In his last game, Hayrettin watched his team blow a 3-1 lead against Bognor. After the match, he didn’t hold back on his criticism of goalkeeper Dillon Barnes.

“We need to do better as a group,” he said. “The goalkeeper there has killed us. It is not good enough. We were in control, and then mistakes happened.”
