A cycling group is pushing for better green spaces in Lewisham. They want developers to include more cycling routes in their plans for the shopping centre redevelopment.

The developers, Landsec, submitted their plans in October 2024. They aim to create 1,719 homes and a large park with 300 trees. Sounds nice, right? But the cycling group isn’t happy.
They say the plans don’t include enough space for cyclists. Most of the area will be for pedestrians, which is a bummer. Alex Raha, the coordinator of Lewisham Cyclists, expressed their concerns.
He mentioned that the new layout could offer great cycling routes. But without shared routes, it’s a missed opportunity. They believe making the area cycle-friendly will help reduce traffic and pollution.
Currently, cyclists will have to dismount when they arrive. There will be over 1,000 secure bike parking spots, but that’s not enough. Cyclists will need to walk through the shopping area or push their bikes.
The cycling group is urging the council and Transport for London to work with Landsec. They want to improve active travel options around the site. A spokeswoman from Landsec said they’re open to discussions.
Lewisham council can’t comment while the planning application is active. Jon Watson from Landsec shared their passion for the project. They want to create a pedestrian-friendly environment and promote cycling.
They plan to connect the site better with the town centre. New routes will link the High Street to Molesworth Street and the river. The planning application will be reviewed by the Planning Committee soon.
